ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Communication, Tourism and Fine Arts offers four academic programs at the master’s and bachelor’s level and seeks to qualify cadres capable and prepared with theory and practice in the various fields of the Communication, Tourism, Fine Arts and Graphic Design. Since its creation in 1999, the Department has offered to the labor market a large number of outstanding graduates who are working in various governmental and private institutions. Graduates have gone on to careers in a variety of occupational fields, including media, public relations, advertising, new media, print journalism, tourism…etc.
The Department also seeks to link the courses with the labor market, which is dominated by strong competition and therefore, only students who are equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical skills will be able to break into it.
OUR PROGRAMS
The Department of Mass Communication, Tourism & Arts is firmly committed to academic excellence through relevant curriculums; BA in Mass communication, BA in Tourism, BA in Arts and Design and MA in Media. With 5 minors in the BA in Mass communication, 3 minors in BA in Tourism and 2 minors in the BA in Arts & Design, the Department is offering an integrated approach to these different fields and providing our graduating students with the necessary knowledge and skills.
All students in the major must complete 128 credit hours in the undergraduate programs and 36 credit hours in the postgraduate program. The Graduation Project and internship are a valuable addition to the undergraduate major. At least one practicum unit is applied towards the major in all undergraduate programs.
In line with the University of Bahrain and the College of Arts mission, vision and strategies, the Departments’ program aims to prepare students for national and international careers in media and communication, tourism industry and arts and design. Courses focus on professional development so that our graduates can effectively perform strategic management and executive roles in both the public and private sectors.
Undergraduate courses are distinguished by their focus on practical, technology-based aspects. These are applied courses that qualify graduates to engage in the labor market professionally. The academic staff and trainers rely on modern equipment and software available in 12 equipped laboratories and a media center that includes studios for creative production (radio, television, graphic design …)
OUR FACULTY
The Department of Mass Communication, Tourism & Arts is home to a dynamic group of faculty and staff. The staff members are dedicated to their students, helping them learn and excel in their studies, and building their life skills. The department brings together at least 28 faculty members, including 3 professors, 5 associate professors, 14 assistant professors, and 6 lecturers. Some of them are practitioners or consultants in their respective fields. In addition to their roles in classroom, our faculty members are also involved in department, college and University committee work. They have distinguished relationships with employers and community institutions, which allows students to get the best opportunities for internships and jobs after graduation.
Our faculty members are internationally and regionally recognized, well-published scholars and grant-winners in their respective fields. Many of them are actively involved in the local community as well.
