ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Communication, Tourism and Fine Arts offers four academic programs at the master’s and bachelor’s level and seeks to qualify cadres capable and prepared with theory and practice in the various fields of the Communication, Tourism, Fine Arts and Graphic Design. Since its creation in 1999, the Department has offered to the labor market a large number of outstanding graduates who are working in various governmental and private institutions. Graduates have gone on to careers in a variety of occupational fields, including media, public relations, advertising, new media, print journalism, tourism…etc.

The Department also seeks to link the courses with the labor market, which is dominated by strong competition and therefore, only students who are equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical skills will be able to break into it.

OUR PROGRAMS

The Department of Mass Communication, Tourism & Arts is firmly committed to academic excellence through relevant curriculums; BA in Mass communication, BA in Tourism, BA in Arts and Design and MA in Media. With 5 minors in the BA in Mass communication, 3 minors in BA in Tourism and 2 minors in the BA in Arts & Design, the Department is offering an integrated approach to these different fields and providing our graduating students with the necessary knowledge and skills.

All students in the major must complete 128 credit hours in the undergraduate programs and 36 credit hours in the postgraduate program. The Graduation Project and internship are a valuable addition to the undergraduate major. At least one practicum unit is applied towards the major in all undergraduate programs.

In line with the University of Bahrain and the College of Arts mission, vision and strategies, the Departments’ program aims to prepare students for national and international careers in media and communication, tourism industry and arts and design. Courses focus on professional development so that our graduates can effectively perform strategic management and executive roles in both the public and private sectors.
Undergraduate courses are distinguished by their focus on practical, technology-based aspects. These are applied courses that qualify graduates to engage in the labor market professionally. The academic staff and trainers rely on modern equipment and software available in 12 equipped laboratories and a media center that includes studios for creative production (radio, television, graphic design …)
