OUR DEPARTMENT
The Department offer two Bachelor programs, one in the Arabic language and one in Islamic studies, and one graduate programs in Arabic language, and Master in Arabic Language and Literature.
The programs aim at students who are ambitious for constituting an advanced level of the sciences of Arabic language and its literature as well as Islamic studies and its foundations. Since it was founded, the Department has succeeded in qualifying groups of students who achieved success in their work. Eventually, a group of graduates hold high positions.
The specialization of the Arabic language serves many professions and work opportunities in education, mass media, journalism, translation, public relations, and sermon, in Ministry of Education, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutes as well as the private sector. The Department takes into consideration, besides scientific rigor, the necessity of connecting its academic programs to the market and reflecting its current needs, as well as providing students with sufficient knowledge, theoretically and scientifically.
OUR PROGRAMS
The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies is considered one of the oldest departments at the University of Bahrain. The department delivers three academic programs: the higher diploma and master program in Arabic language and literature, the bachelor in Arabic language and literature, the bachelor in Islamic studies. The programs vary considerably in terms of theoretical and practical issues in scientific research. The programs of the department have been reviewed thoroughly and rigorously over several years. To gain academic accreditation, such an improvement accomplished in accordance with Quality Assurance System and in fulfillment of recommendations of Education and Quality Authority. The improvement brought about two outcomes, new programs of the Bachelor in Arabic Language and Literature as well as the Bachelor in Islamic Studies. Since the first academic semester of 2020/2021, the programs have been already available to students. Both programs fulfill the requirements of Bahraini labor market and the academic criteria of Education and Quality Authority. The program was benchmarked against its counterparts of prestigious universities. The improved program’s aspiration is that the department will become a body of expertise, conducting research contracts with Bahraini official and non-official bodies.
The improved bachelor program in Arabic language and literature (single track, major, and minor) attempts to cooperate academically with some regional and global universities in terms of faculty exchange, conducting collective research with scholars of prestigious regional and global universities, and resuming the sabbatical leave for the faculty, who meet the conditions of the sabbatical system.
OUR FACULTY
The Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies has distinguished academicians in Arabic language and Islamic studies. Graduated from well-known Arab and Western universities, they are of experience, high academic ranks, and influential research in their milieu, both academic and Arab region. Some of the department’s lecturers were regionally honored and awarded regional prizes. And some of them have already published their research in international journals. Proud of its alumni, the Department aspires to work with some regional and global universities.
