PROGRAM LEVEL

The Bachelor of Sociology Program provides the students with the theoretical foundations for the study the human societies from a scientific perspective that helps the student to confirm his/her identity, understand his/her Arab and Islamic society and culture. The Program also works on preparing intellectual and enlightening leaders who are able, with their mental and critical culture, to enhance their Arab and Islamic identity, and consolidate the climate of freedom, cultural pluralism and respect for citizenship.

The program encourages studying human societies from a scientific perspective, helping the student to understand the importance of identity and society in the culture of Arab and Islamic countries. The theoretical and practical sides of sociology are emphasized through research and field studies, the organization of seminars, and an appreciation of the processes of development alongside social and cultural change. The program results in the increased professional performance of those contributing to social work and research. It gives students a strong sociological background that will enable them to capitalize on career opportunities available in the job market, particularly at various ministries and the institutions related to social development, youth and sports, folklore, and the media.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

  1. Studying human societies from a scientific perspective to help the student affirming his identity, and understanding his society within Arab and Islamic countries’ culture.
  2. Preparing graduates to work in the Ministries of Labor and Social Affairs, Housing, Culture and Information, Health, Interior, institutions for social development, youth and sports and social sciences research centers and folklore and the media.
  3. Stressing the integration of theoretical and practical side in the study of sociology through research and field studies, the organization of scientific seminars on the course of the processes of development and the outcomes of social and cultural change.
  4. Raising the professional performance of those working in the areas of Social Work and Social Research.

PROGRAM INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

a) The student will analyze sociological phenomena critically and in detail.
b) The student will employ sociological research tools in diagnosing social issues and problems.
c) The student will use regular and specialized applications and techniques for managing information and making presentations on topics specialized in sociological studies and related sciences.
d) The student will develop solutions and perceptions of contemporary social issues and problems.
e) The student will produce individual and collective scientific research in the social reality using the methods of scientific research in the specialty and is committed to the ethics related to scientific research.
