Biography


Professor Dr. Ruqaia Taha Jaber Al-Alwani holds the position of Professor of Islamic Studies in the Department of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the University of Bahrain, specializing in civilizational, maqasid-based, and Qur'anic studies. She chaired the Academic Curricula Committee that oversaw the comprehensive and integrated development of the Bachelor's program in Islamic Studies, which achieved a "Confidence" rating from the Education and Training Quality Authority of the Kingdom of Bahrain in June 2025. She also contributed significantly to the design of the Master's program in Islamic Studies with specializations in Sharia and Usul al-Din. Prof. Al-Alwani has received numerous regional and international awards in recognition of her distinguished scientific and community contributions, including the Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud International Award for the Prophet's Sunnah, the Tunisian President's Award for Islamic Studies, and the Prince Khalifa bin Salman Award for Qur'anic Personality. She has been honored by numerous prestigious academic institutions in recognition of her outstanding scholarly achievements. She holds active membership in multiple scientific advisory bodies and serves as an academic reviewer for research promotion at numerous regional and international universities. She examines doctoral dissertations and reviews scholarly books and research in peer-reviewed local, regional, and international journals indexed in prestigious international databases such as Scopus and Brill, in addition to evaluating research submissions for regional and international conferences. She has participated extensively in international conferences and seminars specializing in civilizational, jurisprudential, maqasid-based, Qur'anic, and educational studies, as well as in issues pertaining to women and family. She has authored a diverse collection of scholarly books and research in both Arabic and English addressing fundamental issues in Islamic culture and civilization, the maqasid of Sharia, Qur'anic contemplation, women's and family concerns, and the cultivation of educational and civilizational values. Among her most significant contributions is a comprehensive Qur'anic contemplation project which she has completed in its entirety. This pioneering work has been professionally recorded and formally published, presenting the Qur'an's civilizational and humanitarian message in a contemporary and accessible manner for both readers and listeners. Multiple episodes of this groundbreaking initiative have been translated into English and French, thereby extending its scholarly impact and civilizational contribution to the international community. Several of her works have been translated into various languages including French, Urdu, Turkish, and German, reflecting the international recognition and resonance of her scholarly and civilizational contributions.
