Dr. Lama specializes in Translation Studies within the Department of English Language and Literature, with extensive experience in teaching various aspects of translation, including business, journalistic, and technical translation, as well as interpreting. Her courses are designed to equip students with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for effective translation practices. Her research interests closely align with her teaching focus, particularly in the translation of children’s literature and cross-cultural communication. She has developed vital resources, such as the Practicum Manual for translation students.
As the Head of the Program and Curriculum Committee at the Department, she has actively participated in drafting and reviewing the NQF mapping scorecards for both the BA and MA programs in the department. She has played a significant role in the comprehensive review process of all course syllabi, ensuring alignment and coherence in Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs) and their mapping to Program Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs), while also contributing to the selection of appropriate assessment types based on the level and characteristics of each course. Dr. Lama holds a Ph.D. in Translation Studies from the University of Edinburgh, UK, an M.Sc. in Translation and Interpreting from Heriot-Watt University, also located in Edinburgh, and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Jordan. Dr. Lama has been teaching in higher education for over 25 years, with a focus on Translation Studies. In addition to her extensive teaching experience, she has worked as an interpreter, bringing practical insights to her academic role.
